Though legend says there were eighty five temples constructed in Khajuraho, Twenty-five temples survive today .For the sake of convenience, they are divided into three groups:
The western group, near the Shiva agar tank,
The eastern group, near the Khajursagar tank (Ninora Tal) and the Khajuraho village,
The southern group, near the Khudar rivulet .
The remains of a large temple have recently been excavated by the Archaeological Survey of India in the southern area.
