Several significant places in the country rose up against the oppression of British rule. Siege of Agra and Kanpur in 1857 was carried out by the British from the clutches of natives. During Sepoy Mutiny unrest occurred in different Indian states like Lucknow, Allahabad and Benaras. Lakshmi Bai was the Rani of Jhansi. She was a great fighter and lost her life fighting against the British forces in the battlefield in order to save her kingdom.
